Victorian Gem
Back Cove, Portland Maine *2008 Portland Garden Tour *
This garden is defined by a sweeping, continuous & sinuous 'line of beauty' that leads the eye while containing mass plantings, creating a wave-like effect of form, foliage and flowers from spring through fall.
The placement and shaping of the beds serves to create a series of flowing lawn spaces that gradually descend into a small woodland garden, beckoning a stroll around the property.
These spaces are partially enclosed by informal hedges, specimen trees & shrubs, a small stone wall, a wrought-iron arbor, and a Victorian picket fence that steps down along the property line.
Fence by Maine Line Fence Co; Stone wall rebuilt by Krista Butterfield of Krista Butterfield Stonescapes.
